The Manchester Marathon has been in touch

on . Posted in news

The Manchester Marathon has been in touch and it looks like they are going to put the Frank Sidebottom Statue down as a landmark.
This will take place on Sunday 6th April. This is where we need your help.
We have been asked to get Frank Fans to be at the Statue to cheer along the Marathon runners, so looking for as many people as possible. Can you wear fancy dress? Do you have a Frank Head, could Franks Army be united ?
A great chance to keep Franks name going, and help out with the 2014 Manchester Marathon.
Why not make your very own paper mache head? Now is the time to start work if you are going to

Do we have any people that can play live music? Anyone fancy doing a PA system to cheer the runners as they pass through Timperley in front of the Frank Sidebottom Statue

frank  Yes we really did it, a life size bronze statue of Frank Sidebottom is in Timperley

Our aim was to always have some monies over for a cancer charity, and we are more than chuffed to have done this mission.

So what next? Its early at the moment to comment, but soon a friends of the frank Sidebottom statue group will be set up, and talk of an annual get-together and small fund raiser for marie curie are already been talked about.

We hope that everyone is happy with the result, and once last time, thanks to everyone for your love of frank, the one and only son of Timperley.

Lets raise £1,137 for Marie Curie and hand over a cheque at the Frank Sidebottom bronze statue unveiling 11.37 20th October
With your help we can do this, and we really can.

A limited number of DVDs have been produced to help with our goal to give £1,137 to Marie Curie and we hope that you are going to enjoy this exclusive footage:

Here it is! Finally available!
Frank Sidebottom
Celebrity Sleepover!

This is the full hilarious TV show, as seen at several Frank events following the sad death of Chris Sievey, but never shown on TV in full!

As a bonus (and because the show is only 15minutes long) the disc also includes:
"Magic Moments - choice cuts by Martin with the bobbins hair" - a collection of live clips, as seen at the FRANKOPHILIA art exhibition and the Frank fund raiser last December, which showcases some of Frank's rarer moments

and not only that...

"Live at the L.M.R.C.A." - an (almost) full live show from the man himself, this particular night showcased the magic of Gerry Anderson! This is 90 minutes of mirth, songs, quiz questions and random people who claim to have stolen Thunderbird 2.

Thanks to you good people, the Frank Sidebottom statue is all paid for, and will be unveiled on October 20th, at 11.37am in Timperley village

The not-so small print: created in the tradition and spirit of Frank, this DVD release is on (-R) discs, but done to the highest possible quality. This looks likely to be the only version you will be able to buy of this TV show. Everyone who has clubbed together to arrange this DVD has done so free of charge, so please enjoy it for what it is.

Martin O’Neil will be displaying some unseen photographs at Timperley Library also on the 20th

Martin O'Neill:
I photographed The Freshies on February 28th, 1979, when they played Bowdon Vale Youth Club, on the same stage that I shot Joy Division two weeks later. Being a fresh-faced young news photographer I decided I'd do my bit to make these guys FAMOUS, so Chris and I, and two of the other lads spent a pleasant afternoon that early Spring wandering around the centre of Sale having fun! We went in the local Wimpy bar, we ran up and down the spiral Tesco car-park ramp, I had them 'pretend' to get thrown out of the Mecca Embassy Rooms, and then I stood them in the middle of Sibson Road .. all signs pointing to Timperley! However, as with my Joy Division photographs, nobody took a blind bit of notice .. and the negatives have stayed filed away, waiting for their moment!

the chosen charity for any funds left over will be the marie curie and we have invited them to come along and collect on the day

this is going to be a celebration that we have managed to accomplish our aim, but its also a time to reflect the tragic and sad loss of the one and only chris sievy the man behind the mask and we urge everyone to dig deep and please continue to donate so we can hand over a hansom cheque to the marie currie cancer charity

plans are underway to make the unveiling rather special, and a fitting and long lasting tribute to the son of timperley the one and only frank sidebottom, to whom soon, will always gaze over the one and only Timperley sunset… you know he will…he really will

Marie Curie Cancer Care

We are delighted to be the charity linked to the statue of Frank Sidebottom. Any money we raise in the Altrincham area will be used to provide nursing care for terminally ill patients in Trafford who wish to remain in their own homes with family and friends around them.
As a local charity  we feel sure Frank would back our aim to fund as many nursing hours as possible in our own community.

Cancer touches most families, let us hope that his smiling face, along with our daffodil symbol will bring some hope and cheer to all who carry a heavy load.
